Skylight Music Theatre Announces Cast and Creative Team for Midwest Premiere of “From Here to Eternity”

Updated: Mar 22

Legendary Lyricist Tim Rice’s Epic New Musical Runs April 12 – May 5

Milwaukee, WI – [March 18, 2024] – Skylight Music Theatre in association with Heartaches Limited and Brett Smock is thrilled to announce the cast and creative team for the upcoming Midwest premiere of From Here to Eternity, the legendary lyricist Tim Rice's epic new musical, running April 12 – May 5, 2024. Based on the acclaimed novel by James Jones, this fascinating new musical continues its US development with this production which features a powerhouse rock and blues score by Stuart Brayson and book by Donald Rice and Bill Oakes.

December 6, 1941. Schofield Barracks Army Base.  The soldiers of G Company are under investigation - and many have something to hide. Private Robert E. Lee Prewitt, a rebellious new recruit, is missing, Sergeant Warden, the respected company staff sergeant, has embarked on a dangerous love affair, and the autocratic company commander, Captain Dana “Dynamite” Holmes, struggles to control his restless men. As the internal investigation deepens, the desperation of the lovers and the frustration of the soldiers splinter, while the silent, steady progress of Japanese aircraft carriers into American waters goes unwatched.  From Here To Eternity is a compelling and visceral portrait of humanity, duty and redemption set against the backdrop of a beautiful but conflicted paradise.

“We could not be more thrilled to close our 64th season with this phenomenal musical,” said Michael Unger, Artistic Director for Skylight Music Theatre. “Tim Rice is one of Musical Theatre’s greatest lyricists and to have him at Skylight developing his latest musical is a great honor. From Here to Eternity has a gorgeous score and a powerful story; and even though it is set during a specific and difficult time in our country’s past, it is as timely as today’s headlines. We offer yet another title that is important and entertaining, and filled with world-class talent from Milwaukee and beyond.”

The production will be directed and choreographed by Brett Smock, with music direction by Logan Medland. The creative team also includes Jeffrey D. Kmiec (scenic design), Jose Santiago (lighting design), Tiffany Howard (costume design), Kevin Heard (sound design), Brian McMullen (projection design), Christopher Elst (Fight Direction), Michael Holland (Orchestrations/Vocal Arrangements) and Brigham Johnson (production stage manager).

“Producer/Director, Brett Smock, says, “It’s an honor to be at Skylight for the Midwest premiere of From Here to Eternity.  This is an important moment in the show’s development – we’re incorporating what we’ve learned in our previous incarnations here in the US and in London with exciting new elements that we’re introducing for the first time here in Milwaukee.  I’m thrilled to work with some of my favorite designers and this terrific cast to create this thrilling new production.”
