University Performer Auditions

Thursday, May 21 6PM-10PM

Skylight Music Theatre is proud to partner with local universities for a second season, providing professional experience by offering opportunities to aspiring performers and technicians in a professional, regional production prior to graduation. All shows except ROCK OF AGES have potential university partnership opportunities and no individual show is specific to any one university program.

Official university partnerships are set up through individual, respective theatre departments prior to auditions. Students cast in roles through these partnerships will receive class credit for their participation. Some productions may not be available for certain students based on rehearsal and class schedules.

University students at schools NOT in partnership with Skylight are still encouraged to audition! If receiving class credit is not an option, there may still be performance opportunities available. Please reach out with any further questions about this option.

Auditions for adult and youth performers are being held separately! If you do not attend a university and/or are not a youth performer, please continue to those respective audition pages.

Please Note:

Skylight Music Theatre’s goal is to create a positive and welcoming environment throughout the casting process. Character descriptions are outlined as described in the materials we receive from the licensing companies and in consultation with the creative team. Character descriptions are not intended to limit the performers who may be considered for a role.

We acknowledge that many scripts include roles that are traditionally presented within a gender binary and/or are historically cast with performers of a specific demographic. Skylight is not bound by these conventions in making our casting decisions.

We warmly welcome and encourage individuals of all ethnicities, gender identities, ages, and abilities, to attend every audition. If you have any questions, please contact us to discuss how we can support you throughout your audition.

A high school senior with social anxiety. Smart, sincere, and excruciatingly self-conscious, Evan prefers to hover in the background, a supporting player in his own life, too afraid to step forward into the spotlight and risk ridicule or, what might be worse, no one noticing him at all. He is assigned by his therapist to write letters to himself about why each day will be good, which becomes the catalyst for the plot of the story.

CONNOR MURPHY

Male presenting, high school teenager

Vocal Range: Pop Baritone/Tenor (C3-G#4)

An angry, isolated young man who feels like an outsider among his peers, Connor has been struggling for as long as anyone can remember, often misunderstood and a source of deep concern for his parents.  A classmate of Evan’s and a high school senior who, like Evan, has difficulty connecting with others, Connor eventually takes his own life during Act 1. His ghost appears in Evan's mind throughout the rest of the musical.

JARED KLEINMAN

Vocal Range: Pop soprano (F3-E5, bottom F to E2 above middle C)
